DVD Sales to Raise Money for Pandas in China

September 30, 2008

Fairfield, NJ -- As a result of the earthquake in China, GLOBIO, and DVD International are teaming up to benefit the Wolong Nature Reserve, the worlds most important panda conservation and breeding center. The Wolong Reserve was devastated and left both people and pandas homeless.

Beginning this week, DVD International is donating 50 percent of the revenue from sales of its Ultimate Pandas DVD to the Wolong Nature Reserve where the DVD was filmed. A special fund has been established with GLOBIO to ensure that the proceeds generated will help the people and pandas of the Wolong Nature Reserve recover and rebuild from this disaster.

The Giant Panda is one of the most delightful and captivating of animals, yet one of the most endangered species in the world and they need our help now more then ever," said David Goodman, president of DVD International. "We are so glad that we can use the Ultimate Pandas DVD, not only to educate the next generation on just how adorable, beautiful and unique these creatures are, but to raise money to help save them in these desperate times.

Ultimate Pandas DVD emphasizes the importance of providing pandas with a safe and monitored home. DVD International brings never-before-seen video of four rare panda cubs to millions of adoring panda fans of all ages. Created by Mill Reef Productions in association with the childrens education nonprofit, GLOBIO, Ultimate Pandas takes viewers to watch the adventures and interactions of the rambunctious cubs in real time.

The disc comes paired with a 10-inch plush panda. Bonus features include three alternative Panda Guide soundtracks for younger kids, older kids, and adults; five original panda music videos by Juri Panda Jones in Dolby Surround with sing-along subtitles; and 19 original panda paintings by Laurie Smith.

Ultimate Pandas was shot on location in China over a four-year period by Gerry Ellis, an eminent photojournalist and founder of the nonprofit, GLOBIO. No one has ever had such long-term access to the Wolong pandas, and Ellis up-close-and-personal shooting style makes the footage doubly unique.

It saddens me greatly, said GLOBIO President Gerry Ellis, to think of this jewel of Chinese natural history and the critical research work of the Wolong staff over the past few decades being so dramatically destroyed. Steps must be taken at once to help the people and pandas.
